Who is P.G. Kassel?
P.G. Kassel, Phil to his readers, is a former film and television writer-director turned novelist. He has always loved good stories and story telling. Suspense-thrillers, supernatural and horror, romantic comedy, science fiction, westerns – he is not one to be fenced in by a genre label – he just enjoys telling a good story.
While attending film school at USC Phil’s focus was on directing. At the time a new director was more likely to get the opportunity to direct a feature film if they had written the screenplay. So, he began writing screenplays and teleplays, and ended up writing a shelf-full of them.
Phil has always loved books and reading so it was only a matter of time before his enjoyment of writing screenplays began to transform into a desire to write a novel. The end result was Black Shadow Moon, a dark thriller adapted from a screenplay he had written several years earlier. That screenplay had received a lot of interest from the film industry so he was certain it would translate into a great novel. Black Shadow Moon was intended as a stand-alone story, but at the urging of fans Phil followed it up with Black Hunters’ Moon. He is currently working on the first novel in a contemporary thriller series and has four other novels in various stages of development.
As far as his reading taste goes, it makes sense that Phil enjoys reading the same kind of stories he enjoys writing. Beyond fiction he loves reading biographies and history. Among his favorite authors are Ken Follett, Stephen King, Thomas Harris, James Patterson (his earlier works), David Baldacci, F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Michener, and Larry McMurtry.
A native Californian, Phil is based in Los Angeles where he spent over 30 years working in the entertainment industry. It rarely seemed like work, though, because he enjoyed it so much. His other interests include songwriting, playing and recording music, still photography, cowboy action shooting, and skeet shooting.
Phil is married to an amazing and beautiful woman who puts up with all his artistic moodiness. They enjoy fine dining, traveling together, and making each other laugh, “Most often when we don’t even intend to.”
Phil appreciates all of the readers who take an interest in his work. If you would like to connect with any questions, contact Phil here.
